Castle Lite has brought together five heavyweight female rappers to boldly remix the popular 90s anthem U.N.I.T.Y by hip-hop royalty Queen Latifah.
The all-African collaboration features three South Africans, Moozlie, Gigi Lamayne and Rouge, alongside Tanzanian Rosa Ree and Nigerian Mz Kizz. The aim, says Castle Lite, is to showcase the power of women standing together and fortifying unity through music.
In a first for the continent, the five artists did a simultaneous livestream of U.N.I.T.Y on Instagram.
“Our ethos as Castle Lite has consistently been about pushing boundaries through innovation, and to commemorate this special day, there was no better way for us to unite women than through what is truly our passion point – music,” said Castle Lite Brand Director Silke Bucker.
Moozlie said it is an honour to be part of a movement that celebrates women and encourages unity through music. “Music has the ability to unite people from different backgrounds, and it is through this that we were able to bring our own different styles and individuality to recreate this amazing song with a powerful message
Today, we all celebrate the power of women in unity and our glow of pride couldn’t be brighter in celebration with all the amazing women across the globe on this unique international day,” concluded Bucker.
